Visy and Mikoh partner up for Aussie-made label press

The division of packaging giant Visy is holding open house events in Sydney and Melbourne to show off the SRG1001 digital machine.

It devised the machine in tandem with Mikoh, which specialises in security products and materials as well as printing machines. The base unit comes from a Rotomag flexo press developed by Australian printing equipment manufacturer Rotary Engineering.

The SRG1001 is geared toward variable-data and short-run printing for labels and other types of flexo packaging.

Richard Birch, business manager at Visy Technology Systems, said the advantages over other digital label presses on the market was that the SRG1001 didn’t require pre-treated base stock, while the fact it uses Xaar 1001 inkjet heads meant it would run ink from a wide range of manufacturers.

The standard configuration prints 210mm wide on a 250mm web width at up to 25 metres per minute.

“The real beauty of this press is that we can build it to suit the customer’s needs. Whatever the substrate, thickness or width, we can probably build a press configuration to suit,” said Birch.

The Sydney leg of the open houses will take place at Rotary Engineering’s plant in Melperra on 10 and 11 February, before moving down to Mikoh’s Melbourne site in Heidelberg West on 17 and 18 February. Contact richard.birch@visytech.com for more information.
