WA wins second straight Heidelberg Shield

Western Australia has won its second straight Heidelberg Shield, equalling the top historical win total for the annual state versus state golf tournament.

The sandgroper pair of retired Print Image director Ross Lockhart and Nigel Ashurst from Visy defeated two-man teams from Australia and New Zealand at the PIAA Golfing Society competition.

The Kiwis were once again last, tied with the team from South Australia who made a bad start to the competition with a lost ball on the first hole.

The win in WA’s ninth championship, equalling the record of NSW and Victoria. SA has seven wins, Qld six, and NZ had its sole win in 2012, snatching the trophy much to the chagrin of Aussie competitors.

Players enjoyed warm, sunny conditions at Sydney’s Twin Creeks Golf Club followed by dinner to celebrate to victors.

Coming in behind the winners were Queensland, NSW, and Victoria, followed by SA and NZ in equal fifth.
