Geon restructures management team

Scott Thompson, formerly Geon’s general manager for the southern region, has been appointed as executive general manager for Australia, with all existing business units now reporting to him.

Thompson “will be accountable for the full Profit & Loss results for all of our businesses in Australia to meet and exceed the return for the business”, according to Geon.

Meanwhile, Tony Onsley has also been promoted from general manager of the northern region to executive general manager for strategy and growth, while Steve Hill has been appointed as the executive general manager for human resources and talent development.

The company’s New Zealand operations will continue under the leadership of Andrew Durrans as executive general manager for New Zealand.

Geon has undergone a number of restructures in recent years. It announced in December 2009 that it had completed its “restructuring and integration programme” and was looking forward to “a period of sustained growth over the next 12-18 months”.

Chief executive Graham Morgan said this restructure was part of a renewed focus on growing the company.

“These appointments will make the most of our existing group-wide capabilities, but also identify the next suite of products and services. We want to lead and transform our industry – an industry where change is accelerating every day,” said Morgan.

“With these appointments, we have reached the stage where we can capitalise on our capability across the Australian businesses as well as ensuring that we improve our alignment as a group. It’s a good time to be at Geon as we enter the next growth stage of our business.”

In an internal memo seen by ProPrint, Morgan said: “While Scott [Thompson’s] role will remain focussed on ensuring that these businesses meet and exceed their revenue and profit targets on a year-on-year basis, Tony [Onsley] is accountable for ensuring that we are building them to be a truly group-wide proposition for our clients and that we stay ahead of the curve as these businesses grow and take a greater portion of our revenue base.”

“These appointments are not a change of direction for Geon – they are simply a critical enhancement to ensure that we get a clearer alignment of our businesses and lead our industry.”

The memo also announced the promotion of Ben Heraghty to general manager of strategic projects.

No redundancies are thought to have taken place as part of the management restructure.

However, former general manager of IT and strategic business solutions, Stuart Shirvington confirmed he had resigned from the company to start his own consulting business specialising in change management.
