Geon takes top gong at NZ’s Pride In Print awards

Pride In Print said the entry “raised the bar in New Zealand printing”. One judge, Damian Fleming, described the effort as “a pretty outrageous thing to get right”.

The magazine’s cover folded out to make eight pages and a tip-in insert, which had been printed to match the colour and the position of the image on the page behind.

Geon was joined by Southern Colour Print, Amcor Cartons Christchurch, Panprint, Admark Visual Imaging, Kinetic 21, Momento Photobooks, and Seabreeze Fashions, which each took home category winner awards.

Fleming commended Business Print category winner Southern Colour Print on its “stunningly aesthetic” collector’s sheet of stamps for the Singapore market.

“All the foiling involved, in green, gold and purple, the holographic effect, and the micro-perforations create a very high technical result,” he said

“It deserves special recognition because the job stayed in New Zealand when it could have been lost to many other countries in the world.

Geon general manager Andrew Durran collected the Supreme Award and described the moment as a “huge recognition” of the expertise of his staff.

APN New Zealand also celebrated four gold medals at the ceremony, which was held on 20 May at Wellington’s TSB Arena.

APN Print New Zealand general manager Dan Blackbourn said the recognition was testament to the company’s focus on quality.

“The four gold medals were shared across our Manukau, Ellerslie, Hastings and Tauranga sites and the highly commended citations were earned by Manukau and Tauranga,” he said.
