Help us plan for the future and identify growth markets: PIAA

The Printing Industries Association of Australia (PIAA) said it wanted to get a better idea of how printers were responding to the rapidly changing market.

"We need to know how the industry is coping, how it is adapting and where it sees its future so that we can provide the resources and information necessary for companies to function effectively in challenging times," said the national manager for policy and government affairs, Hagop Tchamkertenian.

"Equally important, the industry needs to know how it is performing overall and dealing with change and where the opportunities for growth lie, because there are many new opportunities, but they often mean significant change from away from the traditional view of how customer needs are met."

Tchamkertenian said the survey would also investigate how printers had restructured their businesses and how their service offerings had changed.

"It seeks comment on multi-channel marketing, social media and web-to-print, and services and processes such as QR codes, 3D printing and functional printing, and whether these are perceived as offering exciting opportunities."

Meanwhile, the PIAA will launch a program of webinars on 19 April with a discussion of how printers can access clean technology grants.

The 30-minute webinar will be presented by Chris Hay from energy consultants Mojarra.

It will be the first in a regular series of business events for PIAA members, said the national director of communications and marketing, Joe Kowalewski.

"This marks the beginning of a new approach to bringing our members relevant and up-to-date information and, via our webinar series, an interactive way allowing participation without having to leave their premises," he said.

"It will also provide an outreach program for members in country areas unable to travel to our offices or city venues where many of our information sessions are held."

The next webinar will focus on search engine optimisation (SEO) and will be held on 3 May.
