Melbourne printer scores international award and boosts sales by 25% with digital investment

The Carlton-based store has seen a 25% sales increase after installing a Fuji Xerox Color 1000 last year.

Docucopy won the international award for ‘best use of collateral’ as part of Xerox’s ‘Best of the Best Contest’ for a run of 400 books, which was commissioned for Salvo Property Group.

The job was a non-traditional size of 400 x 300m with 5mm thick covers.

DocuCopy owner David Shandler said he was surprised that his 16-staff business had managed to fight off international competition from much larger businesses to take down the award.

“Go back a year ago and we couldn’t really compare digital to offset,” he said.

“If there was a lot of black on a job it would streak, but with the Color 1000 we are able to get a really rich black, and the quality of this particular design really made the colours stand out.”

Shandler added that the excellence of work produced on the machine had given the company the confidence to sell high quality digital work.

“The machine and this piece of work really shows what capable and off and allows us to go after the bigger customers,” he said.
