Ricoh unveils carbon neutral program

The vendor has also announced it has become the first imaging industry vendor in Australia to attain a carbon neutral status, with certification from New Zealand-based Carbon Zero.

David Phillips, general manager of sales at Ricoh Australia, said to reach carbon neutrality, the company had to complete a full audit of its operation. Changes have included head office lighting and converting service vehicles to diesel, and ensuring all corporate display signage was powered by solar cell technology, he said.

RMIT University is among the first institutions to join up to the scheme. Neil Sigamoney from RMIT said the university has a target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions 25% by 2020.

Ricoh has audited RMIT’s print usage and has reduced its number of devices, introduced more energy-efficient devices and taken other measures such as changing the university’s policy on email printing.
