Screen printers feel the heat as two go up in flames

An employee of Scads Screen Printers in the Victoria town of Bellbridge had to flee its burning premises, which went up in flames after the explosion of a fluorescent light earlier this month.

According to emergency services, temperatures reached 1500 degrees celsius as the equipment, chemicals and stock cooked inside the Colorbond warehouse.

Scads owner Robert Scaddan told ProPrint that thousands of screens were lost in the blaze and tens of thousands of dollars of printed stock was destroyed.

“We do a lot of promotional work and a lot of repeat stuff, it was a nice little set up that we had and now it is all gone,” he said.

“Everybody has been so helpful. We deal with a lot of printers who have been very supportive and we’ve had offers of help from people in the area.”

Scaddan added that it was unlikely the business would continue to operate.

Screen printing company, Bremer Sports Wear, in the Brisbane suburb of Darra was destroyed in the early hours of Wednesday morning last week.

It is believed that stock and printing machinery were severely damaged in the fire.

Nobody was injured at Bremer Sports Wear, but Lorraine Henderson the staff member onsite at the Scads fire was hospitalised and treated for shock.
