Alphabet installs first Screen Truepress

The new installation is valued at over $2,5m, and includes two Truepress 520 engines running a 520mm web at up to 128 metres-per-minute, printing with Epson Techrated printheads at either 720 x 720 dpi or 720 x 360 dpi, a Hnkler UW-6 feeds in the 800kg reels and Hunkler cutting and stacking delivers sheets ready for offline folding and inserting.

Alphabet is a division of digital marketing agency Virid, Its expertise includes data mining to produce targeted, client-aware direct mail, Marc Selby, operations director, Alphabet Publishing says, “Prior to the renaming of the business, we were performing data mining for twenty years. It wasn’t even called data mining in the earlier days, we just saw it as a detail function of our direct marketing services to our clients. We became proficient at it and have over half a million dollars invested in data mining systems, operated by skilled technicians.”

Its Helensvale premises are capable of printing, collating and inserting up to 25m mail pieces per month. Selby says, “We are a smaller direct mail shop compared to others, but that makes us much more flexible and innovative. We have ways of putting marketing messages into statements and account printing that present clear benefits to small to-mid-sized financial institutions and utility companies.

Peter Scott, managing director, Screen Australia says, “We are delighted to be able to announce this important installation. Alphabet’s data mining and production demands have made this a challenging project but working in partnership with GMC, Hunkeler and of course Alphabet personnel has paid dividends all round. While we do have other such presses installed by Ricoh under the Infoprint brand, this is Australia’s first under our own Screen name. I congratulate Alphabet management on their choice and look forward to a long and successful partnership.”

This brings the total number of high volume digital inkjet press units manufactured by Screen in Kyoto, Japan and installed in the ANZ region to eleven, with two under the Ricoh Infoprnt 500 brand due to be installed at Computershare’s Brisbane facility in December.
