APN Warwick wins over Brisbane publisher with carbon neutral magazine for Zarraffa’s Coffee

Grind is the brainchild of Zarraffa’s founder Kenton Campbell, who is also the founder of environmental charity Ecoforce.

The magazine is being edited by BNP’s Jason Oxenbridge, who told ProPrint that Grind attained it green status by using recycled paper and soya bean inks, which are also used across BNP’s other titles.

“The saturation works very well. It was a challenge to do that with completely recycled paper, but once we got that right we went ahead with it,” he said.

“You can really smell the ink because of the paper that we use,” he added.

Campbell’s work with Ecoforce, which has attracted widespread media exposure lately, motivated the choice of a carbon neutral production.

Oxenbridge said Zarraffa’s was offered a “raft of options” for the production of the mag, including semi-recycled and bleached wash, but Campbell quickly decided to go fully carbon-neutral.

“They couldn’t go out with this message if they weren’t carrying it through with their first mag,” he said.

Oxenbridge said APN had been “brilliant” in helping to produce the carbon neutral work.

He added that the carbon neutral approach had already won the backing of advertisers.

The magazine will focus primarily on travel and lifestyle content.

“We wanted to tell stories that needed to be told,” Oxenbridge said.

Grind is distributed free throughout Zarraffa’s 43 stores across Australia with a circulation of 10,000. The page size is 260x200mm, which Oxenbridge described as a “new size” specially designed for the 76-page publication.

APN Print Warwick recently completed the installation of a 10-colour Heidelberg Speedmaster 102 perfector as part of a relocation to a new site.
