Four of APP’s subsidiary paper mills – Tjiwi Kimia, Pindo Deli, Indah Kiat Serang, and Indah Kiat Tangerang – have earned Chain-of-Custody certification according to the PEFC standard. This signifies that these mills can make credible claims on the content of PEFC certified fibres in their products coming from sustainably-managed forest.

APP says it supports certification as a mechanism to promote the responsible management of the world’s working forests and has chosen to be a frontrunner in the Indonesian pulp and paper industry by focusing on PEFC ‘Chain-of-Custody’ certification.

Aida Greenbury, APP Director of Sustainability & Stakeholder Engagement says, “Achieving the first Indonesian PEFC Chain-of-Custody certification is an accomplishment for APP and an important step in the sustainability focus of the future.”

PEFC is an internationally recognised forest management certification standards endorsement program that balances economic, social, and environmental concerns related to the commercial use of forests. PEFC promotes sustainably managed forests through independent third party certification and provides an assurance mechanism to purchasers of wood and paper products that they are promoting the sustainable management of forests.

APP says it is focused on sustainable plantation forestry, planting trees expressly for the purpose of pulp production. Every year APP’s fibre suppliers plant more than 350 million trees; fast growing acacia and eucalyptus varieties which grow to maturity and are harvested in six years and are important sequesters of carbon.
