ASGA hosts ‘Living with COVID in the Workplace’ webinar

The Australian Sign and Graphics Association (ASGA) has scheduled a webinar on ‘Employment Law – Living with COVID in the Workplace’ on 4 November to guide attendees on dealing with the variety of issues around COVID and workplace laws.

The webinar, which will commence at 2.30pm AEDT, will be run by ASGA legal and business advisor, Warwick Ryan of Hicksons Lawyers.

Vernon Kingman from Kingman Strategies

The webinar will be moderated by Vernon Kingman from Kingman Strategies, who has over 40 years’ of experience managing staff as the previous owner of the sign company, Kingman Visual.

ASGA said it is hosting this webinar as there are many factors to consider for getting a business ready for the anticipated increase in COVID cases as restrictions are eased and borders are reopened.

This includes factors such as:

  • The FairWork rules around a business mandating that staff are vaccinated and if this varies according across states and industries
  • The type of penalties that apply if staff are terminated due to refusing to vaccinate and if the termination action proves to be unlawful
  • A business owner’s obligations for protecting staff against COVID in the workplace
  • If as a business owner, you can ask staff to provide proof of vaccination status.

Warwick aims to provide advice on these COVID issues and more as they might relate to the sign industry.

ASGA president Julie Rochester urges everyone that owns or manages a sign business to attend this webinar.

“Many would know Warwick from the many years of providing legal advice to ASGA members. COVID has presented all business owners with challenges over the past 18 months, and we’ve been fortunate to have Warwick provide advice on it in webinar format to all industry as well as directly to ASGA members via its free IR advice line,” she said.

“Having some legal guidance on how we deal with the next stage from someone who has a good understanding of the sign industry is definitely reassuring. Anyone who owns or manages a sign business should definitely attend this webinar – COVID is not going to go away and we need to be on the front foot when it comes to managing its many business implications.”

The cost to attend the webinar is free for ASGA members and $33 for non-members.
