Aussies educated at Heidelberg Winter University

Eighteen managers attended the University, held in the port city of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, from businesses in Australia, Europe, Asia, the Middle and the Near East.

Seven busy seminar days offered future-oriented management and trade-specific know-how as well as exclusive insights into top-class companies and pioneering future projects on-site.

Greg Grace, Heidelberg Australia and New Zealand Print Media Academy manager, says, “The Winter University provided participants with information on practical topics supported by a robust academic and business theory framework”.

Noted academics provided attendees with practical learning from a total business perspective, including Professor Hartmann Liebetruth from the University of Wupperta and Professor Ronald Schaul from the Stuttgart School of Media. Professor Dr. Helmut Kipphan and Karl Kowalczyk from Heidelberg also presented.

According to Don Lamb, proprietor of Perth-based general printing house Lamb Print, the Heidelberg Winter University provided him with an opportunity to look at ways of enhancing overall business performance.

“The University enabled me to look at our entire business operations. The technical, marketing and economic presentations were all delivered to extend your knowledge base regardless of your level of expertise,” says Lamb.

Attendees were also given the opportunity to examine the concepts and strategies being translated into action by innovative companies through on-site access to real businesses.

Access to these real-life case studies complemented topics including information management, productivity increases, optimal workflow and change management as well as the latest marketing and sales strategies.

For John Smith, general manager of National Capital Printing based in Canberra, a major benefit of attending the Winter University was in broadening his knowledge of the managerial side of the business.

“The University provided a practical approach to general management; most useful in regard to being industry specific,” Smith says.

The 2005 Winter University will be held in Florida in the United States.
