Australians bag gold at HP Awards

The second annual awards, which took place on 7 July, recognised the achievements of HP Scitex users from Asia Pacific and Japan. According to HP, winning entries were selected on their degree of innovation, creativity and marketing appeal.

Cactus Imaging general manager Nigel Spicer described the win as “huge”.

“We won the ‘outdoor advertising’ award for a job that was commissioned for the Oprah Winfrey event in Sydney,” he said.

“The reaction on the night was huge. We were sitting on a table with Kiwis and Aussies, including fellow winner Next Printing – and as you know, Kiwis and Aussies know how to have a good time.”

Next Printing general manager Romeo Sanuri said taking out first prize in the ‘point of purchase’ category came as a shock to the company.

He added that the company’s prize-winning entry – a sample pack (pictured) – had clearly impressed the judges.

“Normally we give away a simple sample pack, but we were inspired by a job we had done for Skyy Vodka, and decided to put a bit of a surprise in it for prospective clients,” said Sanuri.

“We created a small briefcase, which housed a mini Moët bottle and a champagne glass, which really showed what the printer is capable of.”

Ivy Liang, vice president of marketing for HP Imaging and Printing Group, Asia Pacific and Japan said: “It was a huge encouragement to witness the commitment of the brand owners, agencies and print service providers to create such innovative and thrilling work”.
