Paul Hardie, Qld manager of BJ Ball told Australian Printer said the new Brendale facility – which will service customers south to Ballina and as far North as Cairns – created a centralised distribution centre of some 12,300sqm built with the core attributes of efficiency and productivity.

He says, “We have come a long way consolidating three of our business and for the next 12 months we will be focused on efficiency, and this facility is part of that. The new site has overcome some logistical issues we were experiencing before.”

Hardie said the new warehouse, which has been operating since January, was designed with effective communication in mind which he says was “absolutely necessary” due to the sheer size of the site.

Around 40 full-time staff have moved to the Brendale site from the group’s old facilities, however, there have been some redundancies.

Addressing guests on the night, Craig Brown, CEO of BJ Ball said the new site was proof of the comapny’s commitment to the Queensland print and packaging industry, adding customers would benefit in many ways particularly through faster and accurate delivery service.

He says, “It’s an enormous journey we have come on in a short period of time. This facility is here to stay, and shows that were are here to service the market for the long term.”

The site also has a number of environmental credentials, using recycled water and natural light. The water tanks hold over 300,000 litres and service the entire site as well as emergency sprinkler system.

The use of natural light is evident with clear roof panels throughout the warehouse and vented walls to ensure improved ventilation making the building less reliant on air conditioning throughout the summer months.
