Long time industry identity Bob Lamont has passed away, aged 77, finally succumbing after a 16 month battle with leukemia. Lamont was best known for his leadership of the LIA (Lithographic Institute of Australia) over many years, he was a foundation member of the association when it was launched as the Australian Litho Club.
Calling it a very sad day Greg Grace spoke for many in the industry when he says, “For so many of us, Bob was a mentor and life coach and his efforts over the past few years for the LIA were critical in the survival of the organisation. He had many good friends and colleagues in the printing industry and was a strong supporter of the Old Friends group. He was also very active in GAMAA and GASAA.” The funeral will be held at 1pm this Friday afternoon October 4 at the Macquarie Park Cemetery and Crematorium, Corner Delhi and Plassey Roads, North Ryde NSW 2113. Details will be in this Wednesday’s funeral notices. All old friends are invited. The wake will be held afterwards at the Epping Club. His wife Sue has asked that anybody who would like to speak about their relationship or special experience with Bob would be very welcome to do so. She says, “We want the occasion to be informal and happy and a recap on all we know and love about Bob.” Bob Lamont started his career in 1949 as an apprentice photo lithographer with John Sands and would spend the next 45 years in the industry, with major stints at Du Pont and 3M when both were serious players on the print industry. He often joked about his time as general manager at Rowe Graphics in the early 1980s when it was the Scitex agent, and his sales results for the $2m electronic page make-up systems over a two year period when the economy was in deep recession were less than spectacular. Lamont served on many industry boards including PakPrint. Family and friends are warmly invited to celebrate his life at Macquarie Park Crematorium in the Magnolia Chapel corner of Plassey and Delhi Road, Macquarie Park on Friday October 4, 2013 at 1pm.
