C2 inline press built from the ground up

The Comco C2 was built from the ground up and features foundation technology the I-Drive (intelligent Drive System) setting a new standard in automation for label and tag package printing.

The C2 print system has fully servo motion functionality and is shaftless and gearless for easy operation. It has a fully servo driven mandrel-sleeve print unit, with anilox and plate roll sleeves which allows change out in one smooth move. Furthermore, the C2’s exclusive inline geometry and fully automated registration system, coupled with its intelligent multi-process print decks, allows “on the fly” change over – further reducing the work of the operator.

The C2 is one of the fastest in-line presses on the market today, capable of high speed production at 305m/min. An increased set-up and makeready speed with PRE-registration and RE-registration functionality and the C2’s fully concentric design, ensures a vibration-free operation at high speed.

For Australian printing technology distributor, Aldus Engineering, the launch of the C2 represents a significant contribution to the company’s line-up of technology. Aldus general manager, Ian Guanaria who was at Labelexpo 2006 to view the new press, says, the Comco C2 press will meet the specific technology needs for high-end printers.

“The Comco C2 is a top of the range press, perfect for the long run market. It can run seven colour jobs at 350 metres per min and with perfect registration,” he says.

For die cutting and finishing needs the C2 is compatible with rotary die cutting modules, flat bed options, and even with revolutionary slide-out die cassette systems according to the operators requirements.

The C2 is the result of a dedicated program voice of customer (VOC), designed to research printer and converter technology needs in depth, and to uncover specific technology needs and demands directly from printers and converters around the world.

Advanced features, include an in-line arrangement automated registration tolerance of 0.002 in., and print-station drawers that communicate with the overall press controls to indicate flexo/hot-foil/screen/gravure or cold-foil use.

At Label expo, the C2 was demonstrated running 12-micron BOPP film and printing seven colors at 1,000 fpm.
