Calypso targets short-run market with industrial inkjet kit launch

The new industrial inkjet system from Calypso Systems is the result of a four-year development project by the Andoversford company.

Its Calypso Digital Press uses Spectra drop-on-demand inkjet heads to print spot- or four-colour secondary packaging (E flute through to double-wall) at 100x200dpi in a fully automatic, single-pass process. The inks used were developed with SunJet after an extensive trialling process.

The press is a compact unit aimed squarely at the short-run market of up to 5,000 units. Calypso puts the break-even point against flexo at around 3,500.

Sales director Dogan Aslan said: “This hasn’t been done before for short runs. We believe a typical payback period would be eight months, just through the savings made on plates.”
