Thompson will move into the role of general manager for Production and Printing Services (PPS) as part of "brave changes" to make the vendor more customer focused.
Thompson joined the company earlier this year, having previously worked as NSW/ACT state manager for Currie Group he also had lengthy stints in sales roles at Océ and Xerox UK.
It seems likely that Thompson's background at Océ will also prove to be an asset as the companies align more closely following Canon's acquisition of Océ in 2009.
Craig Manson, Canon Business Imaging director for Australia, said: "These changes will see us continue on our journey of becoming more customer focused and we are confident that they will enable our PPS team to better service our current and future customers.
"Paul’s experience in the commercial print industry and knowledge of digital print will see him play a pivotal part in the success of the PPS group."
Other changes at Canon include forming two new groups within its marketing, sales and services department: Canon Business Imaging and Canon Consumer Imaging.
"We’ve made some brave changes to the business over the past 18 months and achieved some amazing results in challenging economic conditions," said Manson.
Canon and Océ will be showing off the fruits of their recent partnership at PrintEx11.
