Canon living large with new W8200

The printer, which won’t be available for purchase until later this year, is aimed at the print-for-pay market and accommodates substrates up to 44″ wide and features Canon’s proprietary one-inch-wide, high-density print head which incorporates 7680 nozzles, 1280 for each of the six colours. The six colours include the standard CMYK plus photo cyan and photo magenta.

The W8200 will be capable of printing at up to 1200x1200dpi resolution at a maximum speed of 30 square metres per hour on substrates up to 0.5mm thick.

According to Canon Australia national product manager for production and graphic arts Steven Brown, there will be dye-based and pigment-based versions of the printer upon its release in September 2003.

“Pigment ink-based large format printers are new to the Canon product line-up and provide sustained colour in UV environments delivering increased durability and life span of the printed output. We are very pleased to be able to offer customers the flexibility to choose either a dye or the pigment version of the W8200,” says Brown.
