Canva launches printing services in US

Australian online graphic design start up Canva is launching a new paid print and delivery service, with the USA set to be the first country to use it.

Melanie Perkins, CEO at Canva says, “We plan to roll out in Australia next year, then will be in Europe, Japan and Brazil by the end of that year.”

The USA branch will be using company RPI Print for its printing services, but it has not yet decided on an Australian company to partner with.

With Canva Print, users will be able to create greeting cards, postcards business cards, letters and invitation all online with the company promising product to be delivered within four days.

Perkins says, “The vision for Canva has always been to empower anyone to create a design and share it with the world. I learned a lot about printing through my first company, Fusion Books, which made it easy for students and teachers to create their own school yearbooks. At one stage, we had printers in my mum’s living room, printing around the clock.

“Anyone who has ever tried to design their own business cards or print a poster will know what a pain it can be. Whether it is trying to get your home printer to work, having to drive to the nearest Kinko, or making do with a limited online tool, we don’t think that’s the way print should be done.”

Perkins says although Canva is an Australian company it has always set out to be a global company, “We are in 179 countries around the world. Over the past year we have launched in 26 languages and plan to be in 100 by the end of the year. The US is still our biggest market, and so we made the decision to launch there first.”

Perkins says the launch of print was another step towards empowering anyone to take an idea and share it with the world, and marked an important milestone towards achieving the company’s vision.

“Whether you are a cafe owner designing your menu, a parent creating a birthday invitation for your child’s party, or a student printing an assignment, we are aiming to make it easy for you to create something that looks great. Launching Canva Print makes it simple for people to create something they are proud of in Canva and get it professionally printed with the click of a button.

“The modern workforce demands modern solutions, and Canva continues to evolve to lead the industry in meeting its needs. Now with one click you can publish your design on social media, turn your design into a website, embed it on your blog, and with Canva Print, have your design beautifully printed and delivered to your door.”

The company says the new service extended Canva’s reach as a tool to power the modern workforce, making it easier than ever for its users to create a design and share it in any format, whether that is via social media, a collaborative link, or in print.

More than 200 million designs have already been created using the service. Demand for the print service is expected to be strong, with more than 2.5 million printable designs downloaded each month.

Canva was founded in 2012 by Sydney local Melanie Perkins, it is a graphic design website, with more than 10 million users and 100 staff from 12 countries.
