Carbon8 and Picpress win at Dscoop

Aussie printers joined the record number of HP Indigo users at the Dscoop Asia in Bali last week, looking to connect with 1300 printers from across the region, and to see HP’s latest Indigo presses.

Dscoop Asia saw the global introduction two new printers: the HP Indigo 7800 and the HP Indigo 6800. Alon Bar Shany, vice president and general manager of HP’s Indigo Division, said, “Things move quickly in this world, and if you stop, you go back.

Part of Dscoop is the regional print awards for HP indigio users, which saw Sydney niche printer Carbon8 take out three awards in this year’s HP Digital Print Excellence Awards.

The prizes came in categories: Photo Book – Art; General Commercial Printing – Marketing Collateral; and General Commercial Printing – Leaflets, Flyers and Brochure.

Carbon8 directors Peter Musarra and Ken Beck accepted the awards at the HP Dscoop Asia conference. Musarra says, “We are obviously immensely proud. This is recognition and validation for a commitment to quality and innovation. Each one of those pieces has a combination of innovation in the print and the paper; it’s all encompassing. A lot of that wouldn’t happen if we didn’t have access to good suppliers.”

Picpress, headed by Michael Warshall, also picked up two awards, winning first prize for limited edition books and a prize for premium photobooks.

Warshall says: "With two gold medals at the National Print Awards, this again reinforces the position that Picpress is Australia's most awarded digital printer."

Over two days, Dscoop visitors heard from 55 speakers who had come from around the globe.

“At Dscoop, we see the connections coming alive. In this room we see 1300 people who can use these two days to leverage their time”, said Gido van Praag, vice president and general manager for graphics solutions business HP Asia Pacific and Japan.

“The most important thing is our customers want to be competitive in the market so we continue to invest in our presses. Three or four months ago we decided the best place in the world to launch these presses is Asia so we said, ‘Let’s make this global announcement in Bali, Indonesia.’”

The company has already sold its first 7800 press to Glo Color Labs of India.
