POS and packaging printer Centrum Printing has installed the country’s largest laminating machine, capable of laminating on sheets up to 1380x1680mm. Percy Vij, managing director of Centrum says, “We are continuing with our drive to provide the means for Australian printers to produce work that has previously gone overseas. The new laminator will enable local printers to go the extra step and offer their clients top quality large size POS and packaging products.”
It will laminate onto both papers and boards. Vij says, “The beauty with laminating is that there is no cracking when the board is folded, which means clean POS results even when multiple folds are involved, for instance on a self-standing display. This is going to be really good news for printers who want to offer their clients high quality large format POS and packaging. Laminating not only protects against water, dirt, grease and grime; but also enhances the colour, overall visual quality and value of your printed material.” The new machine will also laminate foils, metallic, golds and silvers, which can then be printed on if specified. Sandra Mascaro, general manager at Centrum says, “It means resellers can say to their clients that they can be as creative as they like, using specialised finishes. They can answer the question that everyone is asking – how can we add value?” Centrum uses an environmentally friendly film. The machine laminates at speeds up to 5000sph and can laminate up to 500gsm board. Centrum repositioned itself 15 months ago as a packaging and POS printer (supporting resellers), installing a KBA Rapida 162a for the trade. Mascaro, says, “It has been a good move, we have received great support as printers realised they are able to print large format work in Australia. The new laminating system takes this one step further, allowing our customers to sell both matt and gloss laminate onto a large sheet, and to produce a whole new spectrum of added value solutions that they can offer the market.”
