Cheque-Mates triples digital trade print

Cheque-Mates has tripled its digital volume with a new high-end machine, aiming to serve the trade market beyond its traditional field of mail. With reliability at the top of its shopping list, the company picked up a Fuji Xerox Color 800 to drive the huge increase in sales. Rodney Frost, CEO of Cheque-Mates, says printers with smaller digital machines are well-served in turning to trade services for jobs that need higher quality, speed or thicker stocks than their gear can handle.

He says the company spent three months evaluating the machines on offer from various digital suppliers, but settled on the Color 800 for its major upgrade. He says reliability was key to the decision; “as a trade supplier you cannot afford any downtime.” Frost says colour-critical work can be completed faster on the Color 800 while maintaining consistent, accurate image quality. The quality is good enough to handle increasingly popular speciality photo printing. He says, “You can print anything from lightweight mailers that save on postage to thick, heavyweight photo keepsake applications.” Frost says the upgrade will also give Cheque-Mates a 15-20 per cent capacity increase from better efficiencies, and heavy investment in software will provide sophisticated automation. The Lamson Paragon subsidiary is traditionally a mail services provider, including envelope printing and personalisation, but recently delved deeper into production print. He says, “People have not seen us as a digital supplier as we are mostly known for mail. We only really started talking about this side of our business recently.”
