CMYKhub opens in Darwin, Texas next

Fast growing trade printer CMYKhub does not just want a presence in everywhere in Australia – it wants to take on the world, starting with Texas late this year.

The eight-year-old trade printer plans to expand to every Australian capital city and beyond in the near future, following its opening of a Darwin print centre this month.

It is set to begin its overseas conquests with the US state of Texas, and other yet-to-be-disclosed locations, in the second half of 2014.

Director Clive Denholm says having the biggest possible national footprint is vital to what the business wants to achieve, and Darwin was chosen because of interstate delivery logistics and a loyal customer base.

He says, “Darwin is the most frustrating part of Australia for us to ship to, unlike Adelaide which we can overnight to from Melbourne.

“It’s a great strategic location for northern Australia, and we have some very good customers we’d like to support.

“It’s much like everywhere else in Australia in that you have many small printers with ageing owners trying to keep up with technology, so using a hub is appealing.”

The Darwin site will house a Heidelberg Anicolor offset press and a HP Inidgo digital, with more to come, and be headed by local printer Andrew Hodges who joins CMYKhub for the venture.

It will use the same self-developed web-to-print system that CMYKhub has rolled out over the past year.

Denholm says the company also plans to buy new equipment for all its hubs and increase its product range. “Our model allows the little guys to continue in such a risky environment instead of being pushed out, they can consolidate without consolidating,” he says.
