Brisbane digital printer Colour Chiefs was the big winner at the 2016 Queensland Printing Industries Craftsmanship Awards (PICAs), dominating the awards with four gold in the printing categories and three more in design.
Headed up by operations director John Fletcher, Colour Chiefs managed to take out the company’s specialty area, digital printing, as well as scoring gongs in packaging, commercial posters and speciality printing.
Following closely behind in the gold tally was another Brisbane-based printing company, Platypus Graphics which won three golds in the printing categories.
Platypus struck gold in the embellishment, books and booklet categories. Owner Tom Lusch says he was pleased to see so many Queensland printers involved this year.
“It is good to be recognised, there were a lot more winners so it is great to see more people submitting entries. The night is really about getting together with everyone from the Queensland industry,” he says.
“We did not win in our strong areas of business, so it is good to see there is a lot of other good work being done which the awards made me aware of, but it is great to have competition.”
Hosted by the Printing Industries Association of Australia (PIAA), the PICAs recognise the achievement of excellence in the industry.
