Aaron Alcorn, the managing director of Commex says the new printer will enable the company to print an image directly to virtually any solid materials including coloured substrates and still retain all the elements of the image.

“For photographers, designers and the art community the availability of a high resolution large format printer that can print five colours and spot varnish is fantastic. Imagine a picture where just the traffic lights are gloss (spot varnish) and the rest of the picture is matt.”

He continues, “This new technology coupled with our ability to cut substrates to any shape means we have the ability to generate top quality imagery.”

Commex outlines that it has also been pioneering reverse printing to glass and printing to aluminium plate. Alcorn says reverse printed glass can be used in areas as diverse as a logo on a board room table to large format art pieces.

He says, “We recently launched Metography, the process of printing to metal plate. Metography is somewhere between a lithograph and photograph. This new process is likely to become as popular as canvas prints as a means of turning a photograph into an art piece and is priced at a level that is affordable to all.”

The Jetrix is a UV printer which provides a product that will resist the ravages of the sun a lot better than other print forms, according to Commex.

The company continues it is currently in a number of discussions with architects and councils to supply printed imagery for glass windows. The Jetrix is able to print and image to glass which can then be laminated to create a sealed image viewable from either side.
