CompuGroup eyes Agfa takeover

German software developer CompuGroup Medical SE has expressed interest in acquiring 100 per cent of Agfa, through a public takeover offer of its shares.

Agfa is a leading supplier to the printing industry with its plates, workflow and wide format solutions, and has major market shares in all three sectors in Australia. It is headquartered in Mortsel, Belgium and is listed on the Brussels Stock Exchange.

The company has a national presence in Australia with offices in Victoria, Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide. It is headed up in Australia by managing director Mark Brindley.

Commenting on the possible takeover, the company says, “The board of directors of Agfa, together with its financial and legal advisors, will carefully evaluate CompuGroup’s expression of interest, taking into account the interests of its shareholders and other stakeholders.”

Agfa advises there is no certainty the deal will go through and further announcements will be made in due course.

At drupa, the company showed a new high speed plate processor that can handle 15,000sqm of plates in a single bath life, called the Energy Elite plate.

The show also saw the launch of the company’s first LED Anapurna wide format printer, which it says offers lower running costs due to its significantly lower power consumption.
