The two Marquip sheeting machines, which have been online at Dimension 1’s facility in Sydney since the beginning of the year, have enabled the company to sheet both paper and board as well as enabling it to reset the machines to run other rolls including film, synthetic materials and label stock.
Allan Wetherell, secretary of the NSW LIA says, “As an organisation we sometimes get too focused on the business of creating images and transferring them to paper.”
He says, “There is another highly complex and critical contributor to a successful final product whether it be commercial print or packaging, paper, board or film. The specialist converter plays a vital and often overlooked role in today’s production environment.”
Ashley Goldsbrough, director of Dimension 1 says while the majority of the company’s business is in converting, he expects the sheeting business to overtake converting by as early as next year.
Goldsbrough says, “Slitting and sheeting go hand in hand, and we see the trend in Australia leaning towards the sheet fed market. So these new machines will enable us to expand our market base.”
He adds as well as catering to top end printers the company also converts overflow material for packaging giants Amcor and Visy.
Goldsbrough says, “We hosted this night because we are new to the sheeting market. It was a chance for us to get our name out in the market and for people to talk about us.”
Dimension 1 also provides warehousing, customised labelling and damaged roll recovery. The company serves the NSW, SA and Qld markets from its Sydney base.
