Currie debuts Horizon trimmer in Perth

Currie Group’s roadshow truck is headed back to its Melbourne HQ for a few weeks’ rest, leaving a trail of sales stretching east to west across Albury, Bendigo, Adelaide, the Nullarbor and Perth as regional printers gathered for a look. Bernie Robinson, managing director of Currie Group, says the roadshow attracted some 150 rural printers, who may otherwise rarely get to see the kind of equipment the distributor offers without trekking to a trade show in a major city.

The 20-metre truck was laden with an arsenal of digital printing and finishing equipment – with a portable generator for demonstrations in less accessible areas. Robinson tells AP, “Overall the roadshow was well-attended and the performance of the equipment was fantastic. We thoroughly enjoyed it. Customers were appreciative of the effort we went to, to get the truck and equipment to their city and state. We have a whole lot of prospects to follow up this week.

“The challenge now is deciding which equipment to put on the truck for the next roadshow, as we have a broad range of products. We had a great response from our user base and the industry this time around, so I’m looking to send the truck on a similar route with different equipment in the next few weeks.” He says around 50 printing companies dropped in at the truck’s final stop in Perth for the Australian debut of the Horizon TBC-200L top and bottom inline trimming unit – which offers an anticipated three-knife trim on a Horizon Vac line. Robinson says, “There has been a big quest from the market to have that three-knife trim. We have hundreds and hundreds of Vac lines installed in Perth, so there was a lot of interest in it there. “The space is very restrictive as to how much equipment we can have on there, but we had a full Vac line on there, the Indigo 3550, the BQ-280 PUR with a CRF-362 creaser folder unit, the Cron TP-2600 CTP and our Horizon ASC-564A semi-automatic four-folder unit on the truck as well.” The group sold a Horizon CRF-362 creaser folder to Hansen Print & Design at Naracoorte, as well as a Horizon Vac-1000A collating and finishing unit and SPF 200 L Stitchliner to Bendigo outfit Mullqueen Printing; and a Vac-1000A and Horizon BQ270V perfect binding system to Adelaide’s Express Printers. Robinson says he will also consider running an east coast tour in the future.
