Cyclone Debbie hits Qld printers

Cyclone Debbie has hit the north coast of Queensland, leaving printers in the region without power, dealing with floodwaters and damaged property.

In Mackay, power is back in some areas, but heavy rains last night have flooded parts of the town, including a key bridge, leaving Bernadette Sacchetti of Macprint Mackay unable to access her printing business.

Sacchetti says, “We managed to get out of our home yesterday and get to the supermarket, grabbing a few things we needed.

“After we got back, there were heavy rains, and the bridge we use to drive to our shop was completely flooded. So now we have no way to get there. We were pretty busy before the cyclone happened, so it is a shame, but the most important thing is that no-one is hurt.”

For Lyn Farrell at Payne Print, also based in Mackay, the situation is not as dire.

Farrell says, “It is the first day back in the store, and everything looks okay. We are happy we have power back, and very happy to be open again.”

Danny Stockow, of Graphic House is based in Cannonvale, Queensland. It is a coastal area right next to Airlie Beach, one of the areas hit hardest by the cyclone before it slowed down and was downgraded.

Stockow says, “We have gutters missing, and water inundation, but thankfully the machinery looks okay. No power at all yet, and with everything to clean up we will be out for the rest of the week.

“No lives lost though, which is the most important thing. I have a loyal client base too, so I know they will be here when we are back up and running.”

Australian Printer has been unable to contact printers in Bowen, Queensland due to power outages in the area.

We also wish a speedy recovery for all printers affected by the cyclone.
