Darwin printer the fastest wrapper in the south

Darwin sign printers SignCity have taken out the first round of the ASGA Wrap Masters National Challenge, winning the NT and SA competition over stiff competition.

Brad Sisson, Brad Woolley and Joanne Thompson, who have been working together for 15 years, beat out Adelaide competitors Signs by Knight and Reid Signs by being the first team to wrap an entire car with printed film in well under the 4.5 hour time limit.

Sisson says the most important ingredient to a winning team is having a close-knit team and plenty of practice.

“We do a lot of wraps, it’s probably about 35 per cent of our business up here in the Territory, so we’ve had a lot of experience working together.”

Cameron Sutherland, managing director of sponsor Australian Visual Solutions – which provides 3M materials and printing for the competition – says the atmosphere was charged, with banter flying back and forth between teams.

The SignCity team will fly to Sydney in September to compete against the other state champions for a crack at this year’s Trans-Tasman title-holding New Zealand team.

The next round of the competition, the Victorian qualifier, will take place in Melbourne on March 20, with four teams ready to wrap including a Tasmanian squad flying in ‘just to upset the apple cart’.

The national champions will take home a Roland DG SolJet PRO4 XR-640, plus bragging rights, following the grand final at the Visual Impact Expo on September 12-14.

SignCity has been operating in Darwin for eight years offering latex digital and UV flatbed printing for banners and flags; display; indoor, outdoor and vehicle signage; as well as offering digital kiosk touchscreens and in-house design.

It was the first Darwin sign printer to offer latex printing and the first firm in Australia to operate a Mimaki JF1631 UV ink flatbed wide format printer. It also has two HP L22500 Designjet latex printers.
