Data company enters web-print market

Electronic engineering company Kingston Data Systems is entering the printing market, offering video web inspection systems for label and packaging web presses.

The Melbourne-based company, mostly known for manufacturing computer disk drives and USBs, has bought out UK video web inspection system maker Visi-tech Systems and moved production to Melbourne.

Kingston will now produce the systems under the KDS Visi-tech brand having completed a year-long relocation process.

Managing director Mike Young says Kingston wants to become the first choice for video web inspection equipment in Australia and having local production will ensure the quality to do that.

“Some people look at us stupidly when we say we have moved manufacturing to Australia, when all around the manufacturing industry seems to be struggling,” he says.

“I will admit it has not been easy, but this corner of the world is where the action is. We have great access to the emerging markets in South East Asia and that where we see growth opportunities for a premium Australian built inspection system.”

Kingston also manufactures a print machine efficiency management system named Quantum that connects printing machines to the cloud, enabling round-the-clock remote monitoring of waste, downtime and productivity.
