When it comes to enhancement of print with appealing specialty finishes, it all starts with the software. Software developer Color-Logic has perfected a solution for producing print embellishments and metallic colours in print.

Color-Logic co-founder Mark Geeves tells ProPrint that print embellishments are trending up rapidly, and every day more printers use Color-Logic technology with new silver inks on conventional substrates, or white ink or toner on metallic stocks, to quickly and easily create embellishments at the design stage. Many Color-Logic clients use a post-finishing technique on top of these embellishments to add texture to a final print job.

The system consists of colour palettes for Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop, with 924 metallic colours using silver ink or toner with CMYK on paper, or white ink or toner with CMYK on metallic stocks.
In addition to the colours themselves, each of the 924 colours can utilise Color-Logic’s special effects.

“Licensed Color-Logic printers supply our software to their internal or external designers, who then create embellishment and metallic design files,” Geeves said. “The licensee printers then produce predictable and accurate Color-Logic metallic and special-effect palettes, using their printing presses, with no waste or trial-and-error.

“The Color-Logic system also contains visualisation software which enables the graphic designer to see the effects of their work on their monitor, eliminating wasted press time and materials. All that is needed for Color-Logic to work is a designer who knows how to use Adobe Creative Cloud. Color-Logic is supported by virtually every digital printing device that has silver ink or toner, or white ink or toner.”

In addition to conventional lithographic and flexographic presses, Color-Logic is supported by more than 75 different digital printing devices, including digital cut-sheet, digital label, and UV inkjet large format engines. The developer also has partners printing directly to metallic cans. The Color-Logic system supports all these processes and printing devices.
