Enhancing Print: Horizon Graphics

Horizon Graphics is a well-established trade finisher at Chatswood in Sydney and has been a trade supplier of all screen printed coatings for well over 30 years.

With the purchase of Allmad in December last year, Horizon has now spread its wings into the mounting and die-cutting world. Horizon’s owner Adam Mezz did his research and found Allmad’s activities strongly complemented the offerings from Horizon.

Mezz tells ProPrint his aim was to associate Horizon’s brand with a more diverse range of services and to position the company as one to which printers can outsource their postpress requirements.
He is excited about the expanded services offered by Horizon since the Allmad acquisition.

“I love what the new section brings. There is so much going on in the packaging and POS world. There’s a massive trend in recycled stocks. I feel customers are more aware of the lifespan of their product – where it comes from and where it ends up. I’m also being asked more and more about the screen process, inks used, and how it affects the environment. Consumers are demanding to know,” Mezz said.

He has noticed a big take-up of spot-UV in packaging, with customers requiring distinctive packaging, and demand going up in the post-pandemic months.

“I’ve seen a big rise in spot-UV for uncoated stocks too. Everyone loves the feel of uncoated stocks. Add a splash of spot-UV, a spot-white, a spot-PMS colour or a screen printed metallic, and you have a great value-add to your product that we can provide. I’m seeing a lot of screen-printing in PMS colours on recycled board. We trap a white underneath and then lay the PMS colour over the top. I’ve always been partial to its aesthetics. It looks great and stands out too.”
