Epson has claimed market leadership in large format printing in Australia with 40 per cent market share in units sold.
This market leadership based on the total number of units sold was confirmed by Epson Australia and New Zealand managing director Craig Heckenberg during a speech welcoming guests to the company’s new premises at North Sydney last week.
“This is the beginning of the next 40 years of Epson in Australia. I would like to welcome you to our new home here in North Sydney. We moved here in November after 20 years in Macquarie Park. We are excited and we hope that this move marks a new era for the company and builds on our legacy that we have developed over the last four decades in this great country of ours,” Heckenberg said.
“We have achieved some fantastic results in this region – we have 40 per cent market share in large format printers based on total units sold, which means we are number one in the marketplace. There are lots of regions around the world that would love to have this type of result and we owe it to our customers and our business partners for helping us achieve this result.
“We have 18 per cent market share in commercial printing which means we are number three in the market. We jostle between two and three in the market and we get to number one depending on the year that we are having. And what is more pleasing for us is we are number one in ink tank printers – with our eco tank product that we launched in 2010 – we have been pioneering this end of the market, and we have a lot more work to do to convince customers to move away from expensive small cartridges to high-capacity ink bottles.
“We have a lot more work to do – we have more customers to support, more sustainable business practices to implement and new markets to create.
“Epson has been servicing the large format market since the late 1990s. we have a wide range of products from small, medium and large sized businesses servicing graphics arts, technical, sign and display and textiles. And across these markets we are seeing a trend in the demand for customised and personalised products – which is reducing job size and creating many smaller jobs and opening up new opportunities in print for smaller businesses which is why we are excited to launch a range of compact easy to use printers – especially described for that micro production segment.
“These printers are perfect for small businesses located in retail and office precincts where space is at a premium and to help these businesses maximise the potential of our compact range, Epson has developed a new software called Craft Studio – the software is designed for easy operation and maintenance across multiple devices and across multiple applications including photo books, merchandise, t-shirts and signage.”
