The new UltraChrome K3 is an eight-colour ink for improved colour and black and white prints. It is an eight colour ink set and features the new Light, Light Black (LLK) ink cartridge to suit photographic, fine art, graphic arts and pre-press professionals. More neutral greys are produced in black and white images and according to Epson the use of Light, Light Black (LLK) ink noticeably extends the tonal range, while the combination of Light Black ink and Light, Light Black also further reduces visible grain, and significantly improves shadow detail.
Epson says the UltraChrome K3 ink set exceeds the colour gamut of the current UltraChrome ink set, by increasing coverage in red areas, and it has an improved Photo Black ink that produces a higher D-Max rating on gloss papers. With a lower degree of metamerism UltraChrome K3 ink produces more constant tonal characteristics when viewed under a variety of light sources. UltraChrome K3 ink stabilises colours in 30 minutes, so there is no colour shift once it has dried.
To accommodate the new inks Epson has launched a new printer, the Stylus Pro 800 series. It has also launched a new printer for its standard UltraChrome inks, the Stylus Pro 400 series.
The Stylus Pro 800 series large format printer range includes the Stylus Pro 4800, Stylus Pro 7800 and Stylus Pro 9800 printers, that Epson says produce gallery quality colour accurate results for professional photographers, fine arts print makers and pre-press professionals, while producing colour accurate proofs for pre-press professionals using Epson UltraChrome K3 ink technology.
The new Advanced Black and White mode in the Stylus Pro 800 series printer driver precisely controls the use of all three shades of black, producing professional black and white prints of superb quality.
Using a new 1-inch wide print head containing 180 nozzles per colour, the Stylus Pro 800 series produces razor sharp images in less time than previous models.
Epson Stylus Pro 800 series can produce images at a true resolution of up to 2880dpi and uses Epson’s Variable Sized Droplet Technology to optimise print speeds while maintaining the highest possible image quality on a greater range of media surfaces.
The new Stylus Pro 400 series of large format printers, which include the Stylus Pro 4400, Stylus Pro 7400 and Stylus Pro 9400, is suitable for AEC, GIS, retail and design applications, as well as government and education institutions.
It creates high quality, durable prints and line drawings for architects, engineers, graphic designers, retailers and print shops using Epson’s proven UltraChrome ink technology. With HDI drivers, the Stylus Pro 400 series is equipped for seamless integration into AutoCAD specific printing environments.
The new Stylus Pro 400 is Epson’s fastest ever large format printer range, the company says it provides extremely high productivity without compromising image quality.
