Epson to run soley on renewable electricity by 2023

Technology manufacturer, Epson, has committed to operating all of its global sites solely on renewable electricity by 2023.

The process is already well underway, in keeping with Epson’s Environmental Vision 2050.

Rooftop solar power generation systems have been operating at Epson’s manufacturing sites in the UK and Portland in the USA since before April 2020. The same goes for Epson’s sales headquarters in France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands and Spain.

Three Japanese sites including head office and the printer research and development centre became 100 per cent renewable in April last year with the company’s manufacturing plant in Phillippines coming onboard in January 2021.

The plan going forward is that by the end of March this year all Japanese sites will operate using 100 per cent renewable electricity.

In 2023, the goal is to have all sites globally operating on renewable electricity.

Epson says this will reduce emissions of CO2 by 36,000 tonnes annually to zero.

Epson global president Yasunori Ogawa said:

“It’s imperative that we address the global issue of climate change. Our company has been proactive about environmental issues from day one when our founders expressed their desire that we should protect the lake next to our company headquarters.

“And what’s more we have always strongly believed in contributing to solving global environmental issues, for example, when we were the first company in the world to declare our commitment to eliminating CFCs from our operations worldwide.

“Going forward, we will steadily advance measures to use 100% renewable electricity. In this and other environmental activities we will continue to pursue high targets and aggressively drive forward to achieve our goals.”
