Fairfax open doors for onsite LIA tour

The Lithographic Institute Association (LIA) is hosting an onsite tour of Fairfax Media’s North Richmond print plant for LIA members and printers. The plant produces both metro and regional papers, and with LIA delegates able to gain an insight into the prepress, press and postpress production areas of Fairfax. The site tour will start at 6pm on February 23 at 159 Bells Line of Road, North Richmond, and will be followed by a dinner at The Panthers Club, with guest speaker Bob Lockley, who is Fairfax’s group director of print and distribution Australiasia.

Among the highlights attendees will have the opportunity to view the plant’s three CTP plate setters in operation, capable of producing 200 plates per hour. The plant’s press hall also contains ten four-colour single width MAN Uniset lines, two four-unit semi-commercial horizontal heatset, two UV and six conventional coldset four high towers. The plant is one of the most diverse newspaper and commercial print plants in Australia which prints publications including the Sydney Morning Herald, Australian Financial Review and The Land.
