
Melbourne based Fineline Printing has established a new wide format department, and expanded its digital division due to the growing demands of its clients.
Speaking to Australian Printer, Neil Collyer, CEO of Fineline Printing says, “The modern printer needs the infrastructure and technological armoury to support the ever changing commercial landscape.” Fineline has invested in a HP Designjet L28500 as the centrepiece of a new wide format department to be headed by general manager of operations Kelly Wallace. At the same time it has invested in a new Horizon StitchLiner 5500 for its digital print business. Wallace says, “The new HP Designjet L28500 can create vivid indoor and outdoor signage on an array of different materials whether it is paper, film, vinyls, textiles or uncoated stock.” To accompany the wide format printer the department also has a wide format Signmaster 1600 with a Neolt trim master. Collyer says, “We have employed new staff in both the digital and wide format areas to accommodate the additional work, and the wide format will be an entirely new department within our Noble Park premises.” Collyer says “Kelly Wallace has been instrumental in driving the introduction of the Horizon StitchLiner 5500 unit into the factory, along with new three Canon digital presses, and an off-line punch, into the burgeoning digital department.” Collyer says, “All of these initiatives have either created new revenue streams or allowed us to manage our external costs better. In both the stitching and wide format arenas we were utilising a number of outside suppliers. The implementation of the new equipment has given us the ability to turnaround our jobs quicker, have greater control of our QA processes and be more price competitive.” He says, “Kelly has been outstanding in driving these initiatives, from the original negotiation stages to the actual physical placement of the equipment into our Noble Park facility. We believe the expenditure on such pieces of equipment will further diversify our client offerings and reap benefits for the business in the short to medium term.” Collyer acquired Fineline Printing last September for $4m, having served as its general manager for three years. “The previous owners Trevor Nurse and Andrew Cohen always had an exit strategy in place and I’ve been privy to that strategy from day one. We had worked tirelessly to provide a smooth transition with our valued staff, clients and suppliers. I believe we have achieved that as a group in a professional and amicable manner,” concludes Collyer.
