Five Star in liquidation

Adelaide print shop Five Star Print is now in liquidation according to the ASIC website, with the company to be wound up voluntarily, following a second creditors meeting that was held on August 30.

A former Five Star staffer told Australian Printer several industry insiders were aware the company would liquidate with text messages circulating days before the second creditors meeting.

Andre Stazdins from BRI Ferrier was appointed liquidator and has been contacted for comment.

The company is accused of owing former staff outstanding super payments and staff entitlements, such as payment for working overtime and Sunday wage rates.

Five Star owner Carolyn Cagney has been contacted for comment but is yet to respond to the allegations.

The source tells Australian Printer they were not aware of any former staff that attended the second meeting, adding “I do not think many people attended because they are a bit over the situation now.”

The source also confirms the Australian Government is assisting former staff with their claims of owed entitlements through the Fair Entitlements Guarantee (FEG) scheme.

“The Government are assessing all the claims at the moment but I think the result will be positive,” the source explains. “From my experience the former staff will receive their money within the month, I am hoping that is the case.”

The Five Star equipment is going under the hammer on Thursday, with all kit to be auctioned off. Included are half a dozen wide format printers from Epson, Mimaki and HP, a couple of Heidelberg cylinder presses, Creo and Agfa CTP systems, folders, Polar guillotines and other finishing kit, and pallet loads of paper, inks and toners.

Auctioneer is Morgan Gray Strange in Adelaide, auction is 10.30am in Netley, viewing that day or 10am-4pm previous day, telephone and online bids welcome.
