Fuji Xerox pushes office printer at commercial market

The vendor has said it will actively pitch the $7,000 Phaser at commercial printers for proofing or short-run work.

At a launch event on 9 February, product sourcing and planning manager Michael Johnson told ProPrint that despite being an office laser printer, the Phaser 7800 had near-offset quality and could almost be described as a graphics device.

The Phaser 7800 handles stock weights from 75 to 350gsm and can print up to 45 pages per minute at true 1200x2400dpi, according to Fuji Xerox.

Finishing options include booklet-making, creasing, stacking and hole-punching.

Pantone colour calibrations are included as standard to ensure printouts match colour swatches.

As an optional extra, the Phaser 7800 offers the PhaserMatch 5.0 to deliver superior colour matching between printed documents and output devices such as computer screens or digital presses.

The Phaser 7800 also has a 'print around' feature that delays jobs that require unavailable resources and pushes jobs that can be completed to the front of the queue.

The interface includes trouble-shooting videos so issues can be solved without calling IT support.

The Phaser 7800 starts from $6,999 and can be used on a click-charge model. It has replaced the Phaser 7760.
