Repeated over two days, and beginning with
a morning session held at the beautiful Heritage Golf Club in the Yarra Valley,
the label printers received six presentations, covering markets, business and
technology. Among the speakers was Gallus owner Ferdinand Rueesch, who gave an
overview of developing trends in the global label business.
The printers then went to the Gallus
showroom, where the company gave a demonstration on the Gallus EM280
combination press, watching it printing two jobs, with an eight minute
changeover between them.
The EM280, of which Gallus has so far sold
15 in Australia,
is a combination of UV flexo, rotary screen and cold foil, with nine printing
units. First job to be printed was an olive oil label, followed by an in-mould
label. The label reel then went to a Prati slitter, rewinder, inspection unit.
Gallus is the Australian distributor for Prati.
Also participating in the Open House were
German UV ink manufacturer Zeller + Gmedin, along with Rotometrics, UPM
Raflatac and IST.
James Rodden, managing director of Gallus Australia
says, "The Open House was aimed to highlight the synergies that label printers
can realise through this group of suppliers, and to highlight the remarkable
ability of the Gallus EM280, and to present label printers with the latest
developments in the market. All the label printers attending commented on how
useful the day was. In a market which is facing increased competition from
implementing the latest production technology will keep domestic label printers
ahead."
