The new hub is being established in a retail location to serve ‘off the street’ traffic, but it will also operate as Geon’s digital print centre for all its Trans-Tasman print operations. The new digital hub is part of Geon’s growth strategy. In addition to providing direct assess to customers, Geon will have sales and customer development staff to communicate the service and support customers in their digital printing needs.
Geon says this new facility services one of its largest clients onsite, AXA, as well as bringing Geon’s commercial quality printing to Melbourne’s CBD, making its products and services available for all in the area.
Opening the new print centre Graham Morgan, chief executive officer of Geon says, “Our motives for creating this facility were initially driven by our desire to provide the best possible service to some of our largest clients with Melbourne based operations, while at the same time taking advantage of the fact that Melbourne is a flourishing hotspot for business.
Digital is a firm part of our development strategy, we already offer digital services from other sites within business hotspots in Queensland and NSW. This initiative, including the break from tradition with the ‘shop front’ model, aligns perfectly with that strategy, while helping us to realise our overall goal of becoming the single source provider of choice for printing and finishing needs.”
Geon has made a significant investment in the new digital centre, equipping it with a bevy of new technology, including a HP Indigo 5500 digital colour press, a Xerox 8000 digital colour press, a Xerox Nuvera 288 high speed digital monochrome printer, and a complete range of binding and finishing equipment. Geon has also invested in a new Agfa Anapurna XL2 wide format, full colour, digital hybrid printer; one of only two in Australia.
The digital hub comes under the management of Scott Thompson as Geon’s general manager for Victoria, Tasmania and Western Australia.
Geon says the new digital print hub differentiates from other retail outlets through the links into the Geon business, and the subsequent depth and breadth of products and services available to clients through this site.
This site is set to service the Victorian market but it is a Group capability. Geon says group companies are able to strategically source specialist products and services that simply are not available in the local market at the same quality.
The Melbourne hub adds to the network of Geon digital capabilities across Australia. However Geon says that equally its Melbourne customers can use the network out of the Melbourne hub to print and distribute their requirements closer to their clients, improving speed to market and reducing costs.
Geon is the country’s biggest sheetfed printing business, with revenue of around $400m generated from its operating businesses in Australia and New Zealand.
