Government backs printing industry survival plan

The national workshop program is one of the biggest staged in recent times by Printing Industries in conjunction with government.

Tentatively titled Managing Your Firm through the Global Financial Crisis, the program will run throughout June. Management and accounting consultants HLB Mann Judd have been approached to develop the printing industry specific workshops.

The half-day workshops will cover practical yet critical issues that participants in the printing and associated industries need to focus on and successfully implement.

Philip Andersen, CEO of Printing Industries, says the project is further acknowledgement by the government of Printing Industries efforts on behalf of its members and of the recognition the industry was now receiving.

He says, “There is no doubt that our efforts to promote the importance of our industry to the Australian economy are paying dividends. The industry’s prosperity and future development are on the government’s agenda and they are responding.”

Meanwhile, Hagop Tchamkertenian, national manager for policy and government affairs at Printing Industries says the workshops would be staged in Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and Hobart. Website resources will also be created for industry participants outside these regions to be able to access the workshop material.

He said the association was also considering the development of a series of business guides to complement the workshops.

He says, “The planned workshops and associated resources are designed to not only help companies to survive the current downturn, but to emerge from it in a stronger and more viable position.”
