Green and glossy – it takes a Genius

Meyer, director of print technologies at KBA Metronic in Germany, was on the Jet Technologies stand to take part in the PacPrint debut of the KBA Genius 52UV waterless press, for which Jet has the Australian agency. The innovative, compact waterless press has been a talking point globally for some years and is now finally available on the Australian market.

Asked by ProPrint if he thinks Australia is a relatively untapped market for waterless printing, Meyer said, “It’s not as developed here as in northern Europe, but it is becoming more and more popular.”

Discussions with a potential first customer, an offset company, are underway, Meyer said. “It is a litho business that is looking for additional technology.”

Meyer cited the machine’s small footprint and easy operation as drawcards. Minimal setup (in 50 sheets) is another major plus with the Genius. “Most machines need a minimum of ten to 20 times longer.”

Meyer estimates that “around 40-50 per cent” of jobs done on Geniuses are in the card industry.
KBA Metronic began working with Jet Technologies about three years ago and the two companies started their formal distribution agreement on the local market some 12 months ago, he said.
The UV aspect of the Genius is particularly significant. UV varnish, including spot varnishes, can be processed in the fifth printing unit, offering added value.
