And to back up its claims, Heidelberg has an eight colour XL105 producing three separate 600 run jobs in less than ten minutes, and on two different stocks.
The biggest new launch at Ipex was the CX102, its fourth press in the B1 format, and which the company describes as being based on the CD102 but with plenty of the production innovation found on the XL105. This includes the gripper systems and cylinder bearings.
New unit construction minimises vibration at high speed. Production speed is 16,500 sheets an hour on a variety of stock including flimsy papers, stiff board and a range of plastics. It is available in a range of formats including straight and perfecting with coating before the printing units. It can accommodate UV printing, mixed conventional and UV, dual coating and inline finishing options including cold foiling with Foilstar.
Among new innovations on its range of presses, Heidelberg launched a new Speedmaster Anicolor with coating unit and high pile delivery with new DryStar Coating dryer. The new press is almost a metre shorter, so it requires less space and uses less energy.
Heidelberg’s managing director Bernard Schreier said that while the GFC has hit everyone, the volume of print now being produced around the world is worth around Euro400bn annually, a figure that has remained static despite the pain of recent times, and he adds that print will remain a major part of the communication mix.
Heidelberg is looking to lean manufacturing solutions for printers, as well as integrating web to print for printers of all sizes, and the company has an increasing focus on green printing.
Specifically for small and medium sized printers, the company launched Prinect S compact workflow integration solution. Heidelberg says small and medium sized printers will benefit from all the key basic functions required to combine prepress and pressroom management in a single print shop workflow.
Printect S offers automated prepress with PDF processing, layout creation and proof / plate output, combined with the management of all print jobs including ink presetting. Job data in JDF format can be transferred from MIS to Prinect S. All Prinect S functions can be installed and operated on a single computer.
Heidelberg also launched Prinect Easy Control, a colour measuring system for the Prinect Press Centre control station. It is designed for Speedmaster SM 52 and SM 74 presses with up to six units. The system helps ensure faster inking up, less setup waste, and effective production control. It measures spectrally, and as such can be used for both CMYK and spot colours.
