“We are delighted about this further milestone for the Speedmaster SM 74 series,” says Heidelberg CEO Bernhard Schreier at the handover. “Over the coming years, this state-of-the-art Heidelberg press series with its wide-ranging product portfolio will continue to serve the growing market for the 50x70cm format.
Heidelberg says its customers appreciate the high level of automation, flexibility and productivity of this medium-format press series.
The Speedmaster SM 74 will enable Acorn Print to move up a size and also offer its customers the A2 format. The full-service print shop with a staff of 20 uses Heidelberg equipment for its prepress, press and postpress operations. In the pressroom, there are two Speedmaster SM 52 presses and a Printmaster GTO 52.
Last year, the print shop generated sales of £1.2 million (approx. US$ 2.17m). The bulk of its work consists of four-color commercial jobs with coating for advertising agencies, industrial companies and public bodies. The Speedmaster SM 74 will make Acorn Print even more flexible and enable it to offer its customers high-quality products and shorter delivery times.
The Speedmaster SM 74 was launched in 1994 and since then has been adapted on an ongoing basis to satisfy growing market demands. The series now includes everything from a two-colour to a ten-colour press with optional perfecting device and coating unit. With its high level of automation and an operating speed of 15,000 sheets per hour, it allows print shops to make the transition from commercial to industrial printing.
Printing stock thicknesses ranging from 0.03 to 0.6mm can be processed, resulting in high flexibility. Simple operation and setting of the suction tape feeder, AutoPlate and remote setting of the circumferential, lateral and diagonal registers ensure short makeready times. And the Alcolor inking unit and dampening system provides high quality at a stable running speed.
The press can also be networked using the Prinect CP2000 Center press control system. The Speedmaster SM 74 can be supplied with the Prinect Axis Control spectrophotometric measuring system and the Image Control quality measuring system. It comes with a high pile delivery as standard, reducing the number of pile changes required. Optional extras include automatic ink supply with InkLine and a coating unit in the form of a two-roller or chambered blade system.
