HP upgrades photo printing with new Designjet

The printer is a follow-up to the Z6100 device, and is intended to enhance the photographic capabilities of the range.

Jeremy Brew, HP’s wide format solutions manager for the South Pacific region, told ProPrint that many customers had found the Z6100 good for posters, but not as strong in the production of photographic prints.

The Z6200 is intended to address that with the introduction of a ‘Chromatic Red’ ink, which enables up to 88% Pantone coverage.

The Z6200 is also 50% faster than the Z6100, with speeds up to 140sqm per hour.

Brew (pictured) told ProPrint that a “Sydney-based display and graphics printer” had been beta testing the device “for some time”.

“He’s said to us now, ‘you’ll have to fight me if you want it back’,” Brew said.

The Z6200 is targeted at photo labs, digital print shops, advertising agencies, design firms and commercial printers.

The printer outputs at up to 2400dpi, and uses an eight-ink system which is said to provide “greater ink efficiency with the ability to print the same output using up to 44% less ink than preceding technologies”.

The Printworks/Visual Image Impact Expo concludes tomorrow.
