Immij sales surge 20% despite tough market

Immij Holdings, which is the parent of the multi-site printer run by former Penfold Buscombe management, posted revenue of $31.2 million for the 12 months to 30 June 2012.

According to the financial report filed with ASIC, the group also increased headcount from around 100 up to 114 staff.

The nature of the accounting means earnings and profits are unclear, and neither Immij chief executive Michael Smithe nor director Alistair Hill would comment to ProPrint.

However, industry sources familiar with the operation told ProPrint they thought it would be unlikely that Immij chased this revenue growth at the expense of margin.

In the 2010-11 financial year, Immij acquired label printer MacBird Floraprint, taking it into the plant labels market. Smithe said then that Immij was targeting 20% sales growth.

Smithe was ranked 21 on this year's ProPrint Power 50, having been widely praised by voters to the annual poll.

One Immij staff member said: "Michael Smithe has the ability to think outside the square. He is a problem solver in an industry that is fraught with challenges and constant change. Anyone who has worked with Michael is inspired by his energy and creativity."

According to the ASIC report, Immij's diverse range of printing services include pre-media, offset and digital print, bindery, direct mail, print management and colour management. "The Immij group utilises cutting-edge print technology to provide superior products and services to their customers."

Immij has two sites, one in Mt Waverley, Melbourne and one in Lane Cove, Sydney.

This year, the group installed a Fuji Xerox Color 1000 digital press at its Melbourne site.
